Below are some ideas to help you navigate through our large collection of recipes:
- Only 3-5 of a recipe’s main ingredients are listed in the search engine. So, searching for ingredients such as salt or oil will access very few recipes.
- The “Main Spice” search option refers mostly to chile peppers, such as jalapeños, habaneros, etc. For non-spicy recipes, look for oregano, cinnamon, etc.
- Chile peppers are referred to as “chiles,” not “peppers,” except in the case of bell peppers.
- If a recipe has no heat scale, that means that it is either without spicy heat, or that the heat level can vary.
- Experiment with going from general to specific. For example:
- Instead of “fish,” enter “sole,” “trout,” etc.
- Instead of “cheese,” enter “cheddar,” “Parmesan,” etc.
- Instead of “meat,” enter “steak,” “chuck roast,” “pork loin,” etc.
- If you can’t find an ingredient using it’s plural, try the singular name. For example, if “mangoes” doesn’t access what you’re looking for, try “mango.”
- Many recipes will reference other recipes on our site. For example, in the header for “Brazilian Corn and Shrimp Cupcakes,” we suggest that you serve it with a sauce called
“Molho de Pimenta e Limao.” You can copy the recipe title, and paste it directly into the “Partial Name” option on the search page. Some will actually say, “see recipe,” though
not all of them will—so, if you come across an unknown ingredient or dish, be sure to look it up using the search engine.
